THE PREDICTION

World number 10 Holger Rune was in total control against Matteo Berrettini on Friday before his opponent was forced to retire from the second set. 19-year-old Rune has conceded just two games in his last two matches in Acapulco after a brilliant comeback win over Ben Shelton in the first round and he looks the reasonable favourite to make the final here as a result. World number 22 Alex de Minaur saw off Taro Daniel’s strong run at the Mexican Open to conceded just eight games in the entire tournament but Rune represents his first real challenge here and two defeats in quick succession to the Dane late last season suggest this is Rune’s to lose. Rune beat De Minaur at the Stockholm Open and Basel Indoors at the peak of his powers indoors but they were tight, entertaining matches and three sets seem likelier than two here. Back Rune to win outright.
