THE PREDICTION

World number 55 Viktorija Golubic looked a potential dark horse for the Nottingham Open title before meeting second seed Emma Raducanu on court on Tuesday and she looked good in an initially well-contested match before the Brit was forced to retire through another injury. 29-year-old Golubic enjoys grass perhaps more than any other surface and she produced her best Grand Slam run last season with a quarter-final exit to eventual runner-up Karolina Pliskova. World number 102 Heather Watson is also near her best on grass and the 30-year-old will be well-backed here as a home hopeful. Watson beat Katie Volynets in straight sets on Monday and she also has the confidence of beating Golubic in three sets at last season’s Birmingham Classic behind her. This could be a really entertaining match if both players bring their best but backing Golubic to win at least a set as the likelier of two capable victors seems sensible here.
