THE PREDICTION

Former world number three Grigor Dimitrov provided one of the shocks of the Monte-Carlo Open so far with a stunning straight-sets victory over Casper Ruud. 30-year-old Dimitrov has taken out three tough clay competitors this week but beating world number seven Ruud is by far the most impressive as a first top 10 scalp on clay since 2018. World number 14 Hubert Hurkacz has also overcome three tough clay specialists with a straight-sets victory over Albert Ramos-Vinolas a very impressive performance on his weakest surface. The Pole won his first Masters title at last season’s Miami Open but this is first quarter-final at a Masters tournament on clay. Dimitrov beat Hurkacz in three sets at this stage of last season’s Indian Wells but whilst it is tempting to back the Bulgarian here Hurkacz is the more consistent performer. Back the Pole to win at least a set here even if he ends up losing what should be an eye-catching match of tennis.
