GRIGOR DIMITROV VS FRANCES TIAFOE PREDICTION
After coasting through the first three rounds with straight-set wins, Grigor Dimitrov had to come through a serious battle with Andrey Rublev in the round of 16. After going two sets up, he lost the next two and Rublev had all the momentum, but Dimitrov dug deep and won the fifth and final set.
That signalled the first time he has reached the quarters since his semi-final appearance in 2019 and the 33-year-old is looking strong right now. It was his experience that got him over the line against Rublev but the only concern would be the physical side of things and that will be tested once again here.
Frances Tiafoe is growing with confidence by the round and after beating Ben Shelton in a five-set thriller of his own, he then beat the in-form Alexei Popyrin last time out in four. His serve in particular against Popyrin was much better than against Shelton as he fired down 14 aces and just a single double fault and he will have to be at a similarly high level once again against Dimitrov.
The pair have met four times before, including twice in Grand Slam events and Dimitrov leads the way with three victories. So much depends on how well he has recovered from the Rublev marathon as he is coming up against another talented and super athletic opponent in Tiafoe. Ultimately, Dimitrov should just have the edge in quality to overcome Tiafoe and his home support.
