GREET MINNEN VS SLOANE STEPHENS PREDICTION
Sloane Stephens may not be the force she once was but the American did claim her eighth career WTA Tour title earlier this year and the former world number three is the undoubted favourite coming into this first-round match in Toronto. She is a former finalist at this event having lost in three sets to Simona Halep in 2018, and she hasn’t fallen at the first hurdle here since 2016.
Greet Minnen tends to perform better in hard courts compared to other surfaces; she reached the third round of the US Open last year and fell at the same stage at this year’s Miami Open; to date her best runs at a Grand Slam and WTA 1000 event respectively.
Minnen will relish being the underdog here but Stephens should make her class tell and book her place in the second round.
