GAEL MONFILS VS UGO HUMBERT PREDICTION

Veteran Gael Monfils has looked strong in the opening two rounds in Shanghai having beaten Damir Dzumhur in straight sets and then Sebastian Baez in three. He now meets compatriot Ugo Humbert in what should be a highly entertaining third-round match.

Humbert reached the final in Beijing earlier in the week before losing to another Frenchman Arthur Fils in three sets. His confidence and form is good right now and he will be aiming for another run in Shanghai. He beat yet another Frenchman Arthur Cazaux 6-3 6-2 on Friday and he will relish the opportunity to play Monfils.

The pair have played each four times before this and Humbert has won three of those. Two came via retirements but they played twice in 2024 and split them. Humbert won the last encounter in three sets and he will be confident of claiming another win here.

Our preference is with the younger man. Humbert is in good form right now and there will be no doubting his motivation as he will be keen to ensure he beats his compatriot. Monfils will not make it easy, but Humbert should progress.
