GAEL MONFILS VS CARLOS ALCARAZ PREDICTION
The spotlight will firmly be on Carlos Alcaraz on Thursday night with the Mallorcan star returning to action following Olympic action. The 21-year-old decided to withdraw from the Canadian Open last week to rest and recover but now he returns and he will be fired up to do well.
Alcaraz has already won five ATP 1000 events in his relatively short career including three on hard courts – two at Indian Wells and one in Miami. He reached the final in Cincinnati last year but lost to Novak Djokovic so he will be keen to get his hands on the title this time around.
He faces French veteran Gael Monfils in his opening game and he will be confident of beating him. They have met twice before and Alcaraz has won both in straight sets. Both came on hard courts and one of those came in Miami earlier this year as he won 6-2 6-4.
Alcaraz is ultimately better than Monfils in all the skills that Monfils is good at. After managing to have a short break, Alcaraz will be fresh and ready to go. A straight sets win is on the cards.
