THE PREDICTION

24-year-old Frances Tiafoe stunned Stefanos Tsitsipas in the first round at Wimbledon last season but he has so far struggled on grass this year. The American lost in three sets to Stan Wawrinka at Queen’s last week before a capitulation from a set up against Alexander Bublik at the Eastbourne International. Tiafoe’s best run at a major came at the 2019 Australian Open where he lost to Rafael Nadal in the quarter-finals. This could be a tough opener for Tiafoe against world number 255 Andrea Vavassori as the American has sometime struggled to get the job done away from the spotlight at prestigious events. 27-year-old Vavassori qualified the hard way this week for some strong momentum and it would not be a surprise to see this go to four sets before Tiafoe eventually navigates through. The sensible option is taking Tiafoe as outright winner but a one-off on the Italian to sneak a set could be the shrewd move here.
