FLAVIO COBOLLI VS HOLGER RUNE PREDICTION
22-year-old Flavio Cobolli can break inside the top 50 for the first time after overcoming Hamad Medjedovic, a hot prospect from qualifying, in four sets on Tuesday. The Italian reached the semi-finals of the Geneva Open last week, taking the first set from eventual champion Casper Ruud before defeat, and he has been on a tear since a deer-in-headlights defeat to the returning Rafael Nadal in Barcelona last month.
World number 13 Holger Rune won a quality first round match with Dan Evans in straight sets on Tuesday but the Dane will have to improve on his recent performances if he is to emulate runs to the quarter-finals in each of the past two seasons here.
21-year-old Rune is by far the more experience at this level, and on this surface, than Cobolli despite being the junior in this first encounter but sets should go both ways if Cobolli can maintain his level. Back Rune to win outright, eventually, or take Cobolli to earn at least a set to leave the result well up to chance.
