THE PREDICTION
21-year-old Sebastian Korda will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of at least 31st after reaching the quarter-finals of the Estoril Open with back-to-back straight-set victories over Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Benjamin Bonzi. The American won his first ATP tour title on clay at last season’s Emilia-Romagna Open and a victory over Carlos Alcaraz at the recent Monte-Carlo Open is testament to his strengths on the surface. World number 10 Felix Auger-Aliassime is the top seed this week but he needed three sets to beat Carlos Taberner for a second-successive week and he has struggled against the more natural clay-courters. Auger-Aliassime, also 21, has Toni Nadal amongst his coaching staff for a significant trump card but it has not quite worked for him yet on the clay, at least consistently.
The Canadian was the winner in straight sets at last year’s Mexican Open on a hardcourt but Korda looks capable of levelling things on clay here. Back the American to win outright, or to take at least a set inside an accumulator.
