THE PREDICTION
Former world number nine Fabio Fognini upset top seed Laslo Djere in three sets on Wednesday to look a sudden threat to the Marrakech Open title. The 36-year-old spends most of his energy in doubles these days but he has edged through four three-set matches this week to roll back the years somewhat, with his career-best run to the Monte-Carlo Masters title in 2019 coming this time five years ago. World number 68 Pavel Kotov is yet to drop a set this week in Marrakech and that could prove the difference in this first encounter as Fognini has spent more than twice as long on court so far. 25-year-old Kotov finished runner-up to Gael Monfils at the Stockholm Indoors late last season but he also impressed with a run to the semi-finals here 12 months ago. Given the better rest in his legs, back Kotov to earn at least a set to leave the victor up to chance.
