THE PREDICTION

This will be a fascinating rematch between world number two Carlos Alcaraz and number 58 Fabian Marozsan after the latter burst onto the scene with a stunning upset over the Spaniard at the Rome Masters last May. 24-year-old Marozsan has largely thrived under the pressure of living up to that win, with an excellent run to the quarter-finals at the Shanghai Masters last October proof that he is well capable of top 30 tennis, and he looks to be enjoying the conditions at Indian Wells after some big results over 24th seed Nicolas Jarry and in-form Thiago Seyboth Wild.

20-year-old Alcaraz, however, has a deeper understanding with the conditions here in the desert as the defending champion and he looks to have turned something of a corner after a poor start to 2024. Whilst the Spaniard was expected to beat an out-of-sorts Felix Auger-Aliassime on Sunday the manner in which he did should strike fear into the rest of the draw. Alcaraz will be desperate to put this burgeoning upset story to bed early and as efficiently as his sometime wayward showmanship will allow here but Marozsan is clearly a player for the big occasion who has nothing to lose by playing out of his skin. Back Alcaraz to win outright.

TIP: CARLOS ALCARAZ TO WIN
