EMMA NAVARRO VS COCO GAUFF PREDICTION
Emma Navarro is enjoying comfortably the best year of her career so far and her performances in the US Open this year have been impressive. She has reached the round of 16 for the very first time which is all the more impressive given she had never previously gone past the first round. Career-best achievements have come in all four Grand Slam events this year now and her confidence is sky high.
She was outstanding at Wimbledon and has now transferred that form on to the hard courts. She reached the semis in Cincinnati and has cruised into the round of 16 here in New York. She had a tough test against Marta Kostyuk in the third round but did enough to progress and she now faces Coco Gauff.
The pair have met twice before and both have come this year. Gauff dominated 6-3 6-1 in Auckland earlier in the year and then Navarro got her revenge at Wimbledon winning 6-4 6-3. They meet at the same stage in New York and it will be interesting to see how this one plays out.
Gauff had her toughest test last time out against Elina Svitolina but she recovered well after losing the first set. She has spoken in the build up to this match about how she collapsed mentally against Navarro at Wimbledon and she seems to have a steely determination to avenge that loss. Gauff is strong on the hard courts and we just favour her to edge this one and progress to the quarters but we are not ruling out an upset with the in-form Navarro. Be cautious with this one.
