ELINA SVITOLINA VS MARIA LOURDES CARLE PREDICTION
Since reaching the quarter-finals at Wimbledon last month, Elina Svitolina has not made much of an impression in the tournaments she has participated in since. Despite the fact she has previously reached the semi-finals here at the US Open before (2019), hard courts are her least favoured surface and if she is not feeling confident in her game then she can suffer early exits on occasion.
That is unlikely to be the case here though, as she take on an opponent making her debut in the main draw of the US Open. Indeed, Maria Lourdes Carle had not featured in any Grand Slam before this year, so the 24-year-old is still very much learning her craft at the elite level.
Despite some recent underwhelming results, Svitolina’s experience should win out here, with the 27th seed certainly capable of winning this in straight sets.
