ELINA SVITOLINA Career-high WTA world ranking of third

World number 19 Elina Svitolina beat Ana Bogdan in straight sets to avoid a potential upset on Saturday, backing-up tough wins over Karolina Pliskova and Diane Parry. The 29-year-old returned to tour from maternity leave this time last season with an all-new and improved aggressive playstyle that saw her reach the quarter-finals here before defeat to second seed Aryna Sabalenka.

Svitolina went on to reach the semi-finals at Wimbledon, upsetting Iga Swiatek in a three-set thriller before falling short against eventual champion Marketa Vondrousova.

ELENA RYBAKINA 2022 Wimbledon champion

World number four Elena Rybakina beat Elise Mertens in straight sets to maintain a spotless run at Roland-Garros. The 24-year-old stunned the field to win her maiden Grand Slam title at Wimbledon in 2022 but she first impressed at this level here in Paris with a run to the quarter-finals, where she stunned Serena Williams before losing in three tight sets to eventual runner-up Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

Rybakina finished runner-up to Aryna Sabalenka at the following Australian Open in 2023 but she has struggled to make as much impact at a major since.

ELINA SVITOLINA VS ELENA RYBAKINA PREDICTION

Elina Svitolina leads Elena Rybakina 2-1 in their head-to-head but the pair have not met since 2021, where Svitolina edged a three-set Bronze Medal match at the Tokyo Olympic Games against the then rising star. Rybakina has thoroughly improved on tour since, winning three WTA titles already this season, including via a victory on clay over Iga Swiatek at the Stuttgart Open, and she looks resolute in her pursuit of a clash with one of her top four rivals this fortnight.

Svitolina is a little way off of the pace that saw her write an incredible narrative last summer. Back Rybakina to reach the quarter-finals.
