THE PREDICTION

This looks a tricky challenge for 27-year-old Ekaterina Alexandrova, who set a new career-high WTA world ranking of 24th this week after a strong summer. The Russian has already faced one Ukrainian, Marta Kostyuk, and won in three tight sets against the wishes of the Slovenian crowd and she faces the vastly experienced Lesia Tsurenko next, who has beaten Alexandrova in all three of their previous meetings. 33-year-old Tsurenko also enjoyed a strong summer, especially on grass where she reached the quarter-finals at Eastbourne before having to miss out through injury, and she took Paula Badosa to three sets at the US Open before defeat two weeks ago. Given her record against Alexandrova, back Tsurenko to win at least a set here and leave the victor up to chance.
