DONNA VEKIC VS MARTA KOSTYUK PREDICTION
World number 40 Donna Vekic survived a tough opening draw against Lesia Tsurenko on Monday but both of her wins over the Ukrainian have come via injuries in a poor match-up for her. The 27-year-old reached the round of 16 here back in 2019 but she is probably at her most comfortable on the fasters surfaces, with each of her four WTA titles coming on hardcourts and grass.
21-year-old Marta Kostyuk claimed her maiden WTA title on a hardcourt at the Auston Open last spring but she has since thoroughly improved her game on clay, finishing runner-up to Elena Rybakina at the Stuttgart Open last month after upsetting two Roland-Garros finalists in Coco Gauff and Marketa Vondrousova. The Ukrainian brought a career-high WTA world ranking of 21st into the draw after enjoying an incredible start to the season but she barely scraped past qualifier Laura Pigossi on Sunday to snap a three-match losing streak that makes this a difficult call.
Both players will likely enjoy this hitting contest but back Kostyuk, with the better results this swing, to earn at least a set to leave the victor up to chance.
