THE PREDICTION

This will be a fascinating clash between former world number one Caroline Wozniacki and current number 36 Donna Vekic as they meet for the first time since 2017. 33-year-old Wozniacki leads their head-to-head 2-0 at present but the Dane, who returned from retirement last summer, is still far from the player who lifted the Australian Open title in 2018. 27-year-old Donna Vekic has looked like improving in recent weeks, notably stunning Aryna Sabalenka en-route to the round of 16 at the Dubai Masters, but a quarter-final exit to eventual champion Katie Boulter at the San Diego Open last week was certainly avoidable. Woznacki did well to beat Lin Zhu in straight sets on Wednesday and she will enjoy the lion’s share of the support here as a popular former champion at Indian Wells, winning one of her three finals here in 2011. Vekic remains the favourite on form but her fluctuating results make this a really tough call. Back the Croat to win at least a set to leave the victor of a potential thriller up to chance.

TIP: DONNA VEKIC TO WIN A SET
