World number 14 Belinda Bencic overcame a spirited Katie Boulter in three sets on Wednesday to reach the quarter-finals of the Tallinn Open. The Swiss looks a solid candidate to lift the trophy this weekend but the likes of Beatriz Haddad-Maia and both home favourites Kontaveit and Kanepi will have plenty to say about it. World number 85 Donna Vekic provided one of the shocks of the tournament when she beat in-form Shuai Zhang in straight sets on Thursday. The Croat is well capable of performances like it as a former top 20 star but they come few and far between on tour. Bencic leads Vekic 2-1 in their head-to-head at tour level and whilst she should be able to win this in straight sets it would be wise to take the second seed at outright here given Vekic’s results so far in Tallinn.
