THE PREDICTION

23-year-old Sebastian Baez set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 19th after winning back-to-back titles on South American clay, including his most prestigious yet at the Rio 500, to take his career total up to six. The Argentine also won back-to-back titles last summer, on clay at Kitzbuhel and hardcourt at Winston-Salem, to display a promising knack for digging deep that could see him a top 10 player one day but he was well beaten by Taylor Fritz at Indian Wells last time out to snap his win streak at 10.

World number 50 Dominik Koepfer stands a chance at the upset here if he can replicate his level from an excellent comeback over Marcos Giron on Wednesday. The 29-year-old has worked hard rebuilding his ranking on the Challenger circuit over the past 12 months and he can break his career-high of 49th with victory in this first meeting with Baez. The Argentine remains the favourite to find a way through but take Koepfer, a former college star with an affinity for US courts, to earn at least a set.
