THE PREDICTION
World number 88 Dominik Koepfer has twice fought back from a set down to upset six-time Atlanta Open champion John Isner and third seed Dan Evans to reach the quarter-finals. The 29-year-old set a career-high ATP world ranking of 50th two years ago but he has spent much of the past 12 months off of the tour, steadily repairing his ranking this season with some strong work on the Challenger circuit. World number 46 J.J. Wolf beat Maxime Cressy in straight sets on Thursday to back-up a comfortable opener over Jason Jung and the American looks to be enjoying a return to hardcourts after a difficult summer. The 24-year-old reached the round of 16 at the Australian Open back in January on his favoured surface in form that started around this time last season on the US hardcourt swing and he looks the slightest of favourites here despite Koepfer’s valiant efforts.
Wolf should receive the majority of the support here but Koepfer is a popular former college player too with the sort of grit on court that draws approval from neutrals. Given their respective results this week, take Wolf to earn at least a set to leave the victor up to chance.
