THE PREDICTION
This looks like an entertaining first encounter between youngsters at the top of their games as 20-year-old Diane Parry and 21-year-old Anastasia Potapova meet at their respective career-high WTA world rankings of 71st and 45th, respectively. Parry has performed better on the bigger stages, with runs to the third rounds of both Roland-Garros and Wimbledon, but Potapova has proved herself at WTA 250 level by winning her maiden title at the Istanbul Open and finishing runner-up to Marie Bouzkova at the Prague Open more recently. The Russian is probably the just-about likelier victor here on recent form, with a straight-sets victory over Claire Liu a strong result on a hardcourt. Parry came back from a set down to beat Donna Vekic on Tuesday to suggest that backing Potapova to win at least a set is the sensible compromise here in avoiding an outright winner.
