THE PREDICTION
World number 27 Borna Coric continues to enjoy a so far hugely successful return to the ATP tour from surgery that saw him miss over a year. The former world number 12 is well on his way back to the top 20 and beyond if he can maintain his current level, beating Stefanos Tsitsipas for the second time in as many months on Thursday, after ousting the Greek to win the Cincinnati Masters, and then backing that up with a huge three-set victory over Hubert Hurkacz on Friday. World number 19 Denis Shapovalov has found some solid form of his own in recent weeks, beating fourth-seed Taylor Fritz on Thursday before taking out in-form Dan Evans on Friday. The Canadian beat Coric only recently at the Japan Open earlier this month but the Croat leads their head-to-head 2-1 from two victories in 2018. Given Coric’s results this week the 25-year-old looks the likelier finalists but backing him to earn at least a set looks the most sensible way to approach this tight semi-final.
