THE PREDICTION
World number 66 David Goffin made the most of an out-of-sorts Carlos Alcaraz to beat a world number one for the first time since 2017, when he stunned Rafael Nadal at the ATP Finals. The former world number seven came through to the Astana Open main draw as a lucky loser as he continues to struggle with consistent confidence on tour but the win over Alcaraz is likely to bring the best out of him for the next few rounds at least and that spells trouble for Adrian Mannarino. World number 51 Mannarino only recently claimed the second ATP title of his career with a surprise run at Winston-Salem but the Frenchman snapped a four-match losing streak since then with a comeback victory over Stan Wawrinka on Monday. Whilst that should have stopped the rot, Goffin leads Mannarino 5-2 in their head-to-head record and all five of the Belgian’s victories have come on hardcourts. Back Goffin to win at least a set inside an accumulator or outright on its own.
