THE PREDICTION
18-year-old Martin Landaluce received a wildcard to make the main draw at the Madrid Open for a second-successive season and he will be eager to impress this time around after a quick exit to Richard Gasquet last year. The Spaniard brings a career-high ATP world ranking of 317th into Madrid after recently claiming a maiden tour-level victory at the Miami Masters but this should be too tough of a test against Daniel Altmaier, who reached the quarter-finals here last season.
25-year-old Altmaier is a serious talent on his favoured clay, famously stunning Jannik Sinner in five sets at Roland-Garros last summer, but inconsistency has been his downfall so far. A straight-sets victory over Alexei Popyrin this time last week in Barcelona, followed by a three-set exit to Arthur Fils, suggests he is in a good moment coming into Madrid but Landaluce will receive a partisan atmosphere in his native capital to make this an entertaining first encounter. Back Altmaier to win in straight sets but consider leaving this one out of an accumulator.
TIP: DANIEL ALTMAIER TO WIN 2-0
