THE PREDICTION

World number 18 Beatriz Haddad-Maia overcame the returning rising star Clara Tauson in straight sets on Monday to get a promising Slovenian Open campaign underway. The 26-year-old won her first two WTA titles back-to-back this June on grass in Birmingham and Nottingham but she eclipsed that with a huge run to the Canada Masters final last month, finishing runner-up to Simona Halep. 24-year-old Cristina Bucsa set a new career-high WTA world ranking of 110th this week after reaching the second round of the US Open and she came back from a set down to beat Petra Marcinko on Tuesday. The Spaniard is looking like breaking into the top 100 by the end of the season but a three-set defeat to Haddad-Maia in the first round of Roland-Garros this June suggests the Brazilian can win in straight sets here on a surface that better favours her.
