THE PREDICTION

Former world number 17 Cristian Garin is through to his first tour-level semi-final since 2022 after a contentious straight-sets victory over home favourite Nuno Borges on Friday. The Chilean benefitted from some poor umpiring at a crucial juncture against the Portuguese number one yesterday but he has impressed this week, stunning fifth seed Arthur Fils to show flashes of his former self in these conditions. World number 10 Hubert Hurkacz will play the favourite elect here in Estoril, with Garin set to play the villain for the remainder of his stay, but this will be his toughest challenge yet against a proper clay-courter. The 27-year-old has so far reached the semi-finals without dropping a set but a tiebreak in each suggests he could be in for a righter contest against Garin, whose mysterious poor form over the last few years does not take away from the level he can still produce in these conditions. Back Hurkacz to win at least a set and add at least one tiebreak in the match – as has happened in each of his last 11 matches on tour.

TIP: HUBERT HURKACZ TO WIN A SET (AND OVER 0.5 TIEBREAKS)
