THE LOWDOWN

COCO GAUFF

18-year-old Coco Gauff will set a new career-high WTA world ranking of at least 15th after an assured straight-sets victory over Qiang Wang on Friday, avenging her shock defeat to the Chinese player at the Australian Open. The teenager already owns two WTA titles, most recently wining on clay at last season’s Emilia-Romagna Open – also against Qiang Wang.

SHUAI ZHANG

World number 43 Shuai Zhang dismissed in-form Sorana Cirstea for just two conceded games on Friday, backing-up an impressive victory over Clara Tauson in the first round. The 33-year-old recently won the third WTA title of her career at the Lyon Open in a sudden burst of form seemingly from nowhere.

THE PREDICTION

This is a huge test for teenage sensation Coco Gauff as she takes on the experienced, in-form Shuai Zhang on Sunday. 18-year-old Gauff will be backed to the hilt by a partisan crowd once again after a superb atmosphere in her match against Qiang Wang on Friday and the match is certainly on her racket. A first meeting between two players always muddies the waters for a prediction, so backing Gauff to win at least one with the crowd dragging her over the line is the sensible call.
