CLARA BUREL VS ELINA SVITOLINA PREDICTION
Former world number two Elina Svitolina won the 17th WTA title of her career here in Strasbourg last season and a first since making her return from maternity leave. The 29-year-old went on to enjoy a remarkable summer on tour, reaching the quarter-finals at Roland-Garros and the semi-finals at Wimbledon, to fast-track her return to the top 20.
The Ukrainian beat Diane Parry in straight sets on Sunday for an excellent start to her title defence, building on her brilliant performance against Aryna Sabalenka in a tight three-set defeat to the eventual runner-up in Rome last week in the last 16.
23-year-old Clara Burel brought a career-high WTA world ranking of 43rd into Strasbourg and she played like it on Sunday, upsetting former number one Karolina Pliskova in three sets. The home hopeful will be well-backed by a near partisan crowd but neutral support can be expected for Svitolina, who won plenty of new fans with her new brand of aggressive tennis last summer.
Svitolina leads their head-to-head 2-0 but both previous meetings went to three sets, with the Ukrainian coming back from a set down in the final last season. Back Svitolina to win outright.
