THE PREDICTION

This match should not disappoint on a blockbuster Wednesday in Rome as world number four Casper Ruud and number 31 Francisco Cerundolo meet for the second time in as many months. 24-year-old Cerundolo stunned a currently quite erratic Ruud in straight sets at the Barcelona Open last month but he has just bettered that result in style by beating world number eight, the home favourite, in a three-set comeback on Tuesday. The Argentine leads Ruud 2-1 in their head-to-head after beating the Norwegian en-route to his maiden ATP title at the Bastad Open last summer and, notably, that sees him lead 2-0 on clay. Ruud, also 24, has been a hard man to back with confidence this season despite recently winning his 10th ATP title, and ninth on his favoured clay, at the Estoril Open but a straight-sets victory over Laslo Djere is always a good result on this surface. Back Cerundolo to earn at least a set here given his performance in the last round but leave the victor up to chance.
