CARLOS ALCARAZ VS TOMMY PAUL PREDICTION
Although reigning Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz dropped a set against Ugo Humbert in the pair’s round of 16 encounter on Sunday, it was an altogether less dramatic affair than the Spaniard’s come-from-behind five-set defeat of Frances Tiafoe in the previous round. It’s fair to say though, that Alcaraz hasn’t been at his brutal best in his title defence so far.
Tommy Paul’s Queen’s Club Championship success has clearly carried through to Wimbledon as the American is enjoying a career-best run at the All England Club, in what is only his third appearance in the main draw.
Paul’s new-found confidence on grass will pose a significant challenge to Alcaraz, who has relied more on his sheer grit and determination than his undoubted talent over the past week. You’d still have to make the defending champion the favourite, but don’t be surprised if Paul takes at least a set.
