CARLOS ALCARAZ VS NOVAK DJOKOVIC PREDICTION

Carlos Alcaraz came through a stern test in his semi-final with Daniil Medvedev in the last four, losing the first set on a tie-break before upping his game and winning the next three sets. The Spaniard is aiming to defend the trophy that he won last year, while he also has the chance to win back-to-back Grand Slams for the first time in his career.

After receiving a quarter-final bye due to Alex de Minaur’s injury-forced withdrawal, a well-rested Novak Djokovic came through his semi-final with Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets, which will have done wonders for his energy levels heading into the final.

Djokovic has had many rivals over the years, but there’s no doubting that Alcaraz is his chief foe these days. The pair met in last year’s Wimbledon final, which Alcaraz won in a thrilling five-set encounter, and with Djokovic now in his 37th year, there can’t be many more of these battles left in his storied career.

The bookies make Alcaraz the favourite here, and for good reason given that he beat a year-younger Djokovic last year, but you can not underestimate the Serb on one of his most successful courts. The British crowd, despite the fact Alcaraz’ nation take on England in the EURO 2024 final on later Sunday, will probably be on the youngster’s side. Djokovic has rallied against the crowds this past fortnight, but the negative energy only seems to drive him to greater success.

This is highly unlikely to be a straight-sets win in either direction, and Djokovic will almost certainly have his moments in the ascendency. However, Alcaraz is only getting better and better as he seeks to dominate the sport over the next few years, and another victory here against the GOAT-contender will be another significant feather in his cap.
