CARLOS ALCARAZ VS BEN SHELTON PREDICTION
It has not been the easiest of times for Carlos Alcaraz in the last few months and after early elimination in the US Open, there were plenty of reports around fatigue kicking in for the Mallorcan star. A handful of early eliminations should mean the 21-year-old is well-rested but he likely needs a complete break between seasons now to recover and go again in 2025.
He has come to Berlin and will enjoy this format of the game and his pride will make him eager to get a win here against Shelton. He won their only previous meeting in 2023 at the Canadian Open but will know this is an improved Shelton.
The talented 21-year-old American is making his own waves in 2024 and had a solid month on the North American leg of the tour. This is his second appearance at the Laver Cup after surprising many in the 2023 edition in Vancouver. He won all three matches without dropping a set and he will relish playing Alcaraz in Berlin here.
With Alcaraz clearly below par, we would not be surprised to see an upset here. Shelton is in fine form, is on his preferred surface, and loves this competition. There is value on the young American here.
