THE PREDICTION

World number one Carlos Alcaraz enjoyed a comfortable opener over the retiring Jeremy Chardy on Tuesday, making it six wins on the spin on grass after claiming his first ATP title on the surface at Queen’s two weeks ago. The 20-year-old went from undercooked on his weakest surface to a Wimbledon contender in the space of a week at Queen’s with impressive victories over Grigor Dimitrov, Sebastian Korda and Alex de Minaur but it remains to be seen how he fares against top 10 opposition after last summer’s epic four-set defeat to Jannik Sinner in the round of 16. 26-year-old Alexandre Muller will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 75th after beating his compatriot Arthur Rinderknech, who came very close to beating Alcaraz in the first round at Queen’s, in four sets. The 26-year-old is enjoying the form of his career so far after making a maiden tour final in Marrakech back in April but anything other than a straight-sets victory for Alcaraz in this first meeting between the two would be a huge surprise.
