THE PREDICTION

25-year-old Borna Coric has more than halved his ATP world ranking, currently at 152, to sit inside the top 70 in the live rankings after stunning the likes of Rafael Nadal, Roberto Bautista Agut and perhaps most impressively Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets on Friday. The former world number two is through to his first semi-final since the Rotterdam Open in 2021, his last tournament on tour before missing a whole year through injury and surgery. The Croat will likely feel better than he ever has after almost seeing his career end early and that will be a huge force for world number 11 Cam Norrie to have to contend with. The 26-year-old claimed a career-best ranking win on Friday, though, with a three-set thriller over world number four Carlos Alcaraz – beating the Spaniard at the fourth time of asking. Norrie continues to smash through pre-conceived barriers, with two top 10 victories already this month after also beating Auger-Aliassime in Los Cabos, and the Brit is the only Masters champion of the two in this semi-final after storming to the Indian Wells title last October.

Both players are thoroughly deserving of a place in the final after hugely impressive campaigns and a finely-poised head-to-head record at 1-1 makes this a tight call. Norrie beat Coric in straight sets on a hardcourt at the 2018 Shenzhen Open whilst Coric claimed their only meeting on clay at the Italian Open a year later. Given his victory over Alcaraz, and his hardcourt result over Coric, taking Norrie to win at least a set as the just-about likelier victor looks the sensible way to lean here.
