26-year-old Botic van de Zandschulp will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of at least 38th after two impressive straight-set victories over Brandon Nakashima and Egor Gerasimov at the Munich Open. The Dutchman really burst onto the scene at Roland-Garros last season, on clay, with a five set victory over Hubert Hurkacz in the first round and a five-set defeat to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the second. World number seven Casper Ruud overcame an early scare with a comeback victory over Alex Molcan on Thursday but the Norwegian looks the favourite for the title in Munich alongside Miomir Kecmanovic. Ruud lost to Van de Zandschulp in four sets at last season’s US Open but on clay the 23-year-old has very few natural enemies.
