THE PREDICTION
World number 17 Belinda Bencic needed three sets to get past home hopeful Jule Niemeier at the German Open on Tuesday but the Swiss remains a reasonable outside chance here on a surface that suits her. The 25-year-old came into some serious form this time last summer, finishing runner-up here to Liudmila Samsonova before winning two Gold Medals at the Tokyo Olympic Games, and she won her first ever WTA title at the Eastbourne International back in 2015. World number 81 Anna Kalinskaya put in a solid performance to beat Alize Cornet in straight sets on Tuesday but she looks to have drawn a short straw two weeks running. The 23-year-old lost in straight sets to Bencic at this stage of last week’s Libema Open in their only previous encounter but it came close enough to warrant caution here. Backing Bencic to win outright seems the suitably cautious move here after the Swiss’ choppy start.
