Former world number five Sara Errani grabbed the best result of her recent renaissance form with a huge comeback over former number one Caroline Wozniacki on Wednesday. 36-year-old Errani reached the semi-finals of the Bogota Open earlier this month, upsetting Sara Sorribes Tormo before falling to eventual champion Camila Osorio, but a Masters-level win in such a nostalgic match-up must have been an incredible moment for the veteran.
Three-successive three-set battles so far, from qualifying through to the second round, says the Italian is likely to come unstuck against 11th seed Beatriz Haddad-Maia but the Brazilian has struggled to find anything like her brutish best in recent months.
