THE PREDICTION

Former world number five Sara Errani grabbed the best result of her recent renaissance form with a huge comeback over former number one Caroline Wozniacki on Wednesday. 36-year-old Errani reached the semi-finals of the Bogota Open earlier this month, upsetting Sara Sorribes Tormo before falling to eventual champion Camila Osorio, but a Masters-level win in such a nostalgic match-up must have been an incredible moment for the veteran.

Three-successive three-set battles so far, from qualifying through to the second round, says the Italian is likely to come unstuck against 11th seed Beatriz Haddad-Maia but the Brazilian has struggled to find anything like her brutish best in recent months. An early exit in Charleston last week to Veronika Kudermetova screamed of low confidence on court but despite poor form she has managed to win her opening match in each of her last three. Backing Haddad-Maia to win outright is the suitably cautious move here so consider a one-off on Errani to snatch a set or leave this one alone.
