THE PREDICTION

World number 13 Beatriz Haddad-Maia got her Abu Dhabi campaign underway well with a straight-sets victory over Xiyu Wang on Tuesday. The Brazilian stunned Elena Rybakina in three sets in the quarter-finals here last season before a semi-final exit to eventual champion Belinda Bencic to start off what became her best year yet after a huge run to the semi-finals at Roland-Garros and victory at the WTA Elite Trophy. 31-year-old Magda Linette set a career-high WTA world ranking of 19th this time last season after her incredible run to the semi-finals of the Australian Open but she was forced out of the first round this time around by an unfortunate injury. The Pole, now ranked 55th, snapped a four-match losing streak on Tuesday with a straight-sets victory over young Alex Eala but this looks way too steep of a challenge in her current form. Haddad-Maia beat her in straight sets last May, on clay in Rome, and she can be backed to produce a similar result here.

TIP: BEATRIZ HADDAD-MAIA TO WIN 2-0
