STEFANOS TSITSIPAS
- Stefanos Tsitsipas beat an out-of-sorts Alexander Zverev to extend an already strong win percentage over the German to 83% but it was ultimately not enough as Germany came through to win the tie 2-1.
- With Greece almost certainly unable to qualify for the latter stages of the cup, this match could suffer, but Tsitsipas is not one to throw in the towel and will be gearing up mentally for the incoming Australian Open where he burst onto the scene this time last year.
- 21-year-old Tsitsipas has a 3-0 lead in matches played against Alex de Minaur but the Australian is in the form if his life right now and this will be a stern challenge.
ALEX DE MINAUR
- World number 18 Alex de Minaur came back from a set down to beat an in-form Denis Shapovalov yet again, less than two months since their quarter-finals rubber at the Davis Cup.
- The 20-year-old Aussie could play with some pressure off after John Millman, standing in for the injured Nick Kyrgios, came through with a brilliant win over Felix Auger-Aliassime to make it 1-0.
- De Minaur will have to beat ATP Finals champion Tsitsipas for the first time in his young career but the tables have turned in motivation since their Paris Masters match where the Greek was desperate to qualify for the finals in London.
THE PREDICTION
Anywhere else on the tour this year and this match would most likely be Stefanos Tsitsipas’ to claim, but the Australian team – and especially Alex de Minaur – have been unstoppable this week. Two 3-0 wins in ties against strong nations is impressive, and the backdrop of the bush fire tragedies seems to be spurring the team, and nation, on for a tilt at the trophy here. Australia will almost certainly be 1-0 up when these players meet and De Minaur can rally to make it three from three in Group F.
