THE PREDICTION
World number 38 Aslan Karatsev put in a welcome, solid performance to beat in-form Brandon Nakashima in straight sets on Monday, snapping a four-match losing streak. The 28-year-old won the third ATP title of his career at the start of the season in Sydney but he looks to have suffered a significant loss in intensity and/or confidence over the last few months to bring a poor 14/20 record to Cincinnati. World number 16 Diego Schwartzman came back from a set down to beat Alex Molcan in a similarly welcome result after struggling over the last few months. The Argentine will turn 30 on Tuesday with his best season on tour coming just two years ago, where he set a career-high ATP world ranking of eighth to qualify for the ATP Finals. This is a tough call on recent form with Karatsev incredibly hard to predict this season but the Russian leads their head-to-head record 2-0 and backing him to win at least a set seems a reasonable way to avoid the result.
