World number 34 Aslan Karatsev reached the Serbia Open final on clay last season via a stunning three-set victory over Novak Djokovic but he has struggled to reach those heights on the surface since. After winning his third ATP title at the Sydney Tennis Classic at the start of this season the Russian has also struggled to impose himself at tournaments in general, with eight defeats from his last 11 matches. World number 60 David Goffin has similarly struggled for much of this season but he won the Grand Prix Hassan II last month on clay and backed that up with a solid run to the quarter-finals of the Monte-Carlo Masters. The pair meet for a first time here with the winner tough to pick but backing Goffin to win at least a set as the more comfortable clay-courter seems sensible.
