THE PREDICTION
World number two Aryna Sabalenka looks the solid favourite for the Brisbane International title after blasting past her three opponents this week, conceding just nine games after a one-sided victory over fifth seed Daria Kasatkina on Friday. A likely final with second seed Elena Rybakina should be a fascinating precursor to a key rivalry at the incoming Australian Open, with Sabalenka coming back from a set down to beat the Kazakh in the final in Melbourne last year, but this is no gimme against her compatriot Victoria Azarenka – herself a two-time Australian Open champion.
Former number one Azarenka overcame Jelena Ostapenko in a bad-tempered quarter-final on Friday to back-up two solid wins so far this week but she would have to find her illusive best level to have any chance against Sabalenka in this vein. Sabalenka leads their head-to-head 3-1, all four meetings coming on hardcourts, and she has improved considerably since their last clash in 2021. Take the world number two to win in straight sets.
TIP: ARYNA SABALENKA TO WIN 2-0
