THE PREDICTION
World number seven Aryna Sabalenka was in control of her second round match with Anna Kalinskaya on Wednesday before her opponent was forced to retire late in the second set. 24-year-old Sabalenka served just two aces but only four double faults, a huge improvement on her recent serving, which could point towards her biggest weapon returning to her some time sooner than later. World number 30 Shelby Rogers was set for another tussle with Amanda Anisimova after a huge performance against the younger American on her way to the Silicon Valley Classic final a few weeks ago but a late withdrawal saw her through via a walkover. If she can find her best tennis the 29-year-old will fancy her chances against this current, somewhat beleaguered form of former world number two Sabalenka but the Belarussian comfortably won their first meeting in the semi-finals of ‘s-Hertogenbosch back in June. The sensible option looks to be taking Sabalenka to win at least a set, given their previous, but backing Rogers to snatch at least one in her current guise could be the shrewd move.
