ARYNA SABALENKA VS JESSICA PEGULA PREDICTION
Aryna Sabalenka and Jessica Pegula will meet for a seventh time on the WTA Tour and it is the Belarussian who leads the head-to-head by four wins to two. All of those meetings have come since 2020 and Sabalenka will take heart from that record.
Sabalenka has beaten some quality players en route to the final. The semi-final straight-sets win over Iga Swiatek was an impressive performance against the world number one. She created 15 break points and took five on her way to a 6-3 6-3 win and that along with previous wins over Samsonova, Svitolina and Cocciaretto will give her huge confidence coming into the final.
Pegula is in superb form right now and is looking somewhat unbeatable on hard courts in North America. After winning the Canadian Open last week, she’s in formidable form and her confidence is flying. She came through yet another tough match in her semi-final against Paula Badosa and the rain-interrupted encounter saw her face another three-setter. She found a way to win yet again even when Badosa started after the resumption is far better form. That has been the story of the last two weeks and especially this week. Pegula finds a way to win and her character is impressive.
We do however think she may just run out of gas a little bit here and Sabalenka comes into the final much fresher. Sabalenka is prone to losing when not expect but the fact she is playing the in-form Pegula will likely spur her on to do well. Combined with her strong record against the American, we are tipping Sabalenka to snap this superb run of Pegula’s and win the title.
