ARTHUR FILS VS ROMAN SAFIULLIN PREDICTION
Arthur Fils has been a breath of fresh air this week as the young Frenchman beat Dominic Stricker in the first round and then had seventh seed Hubert Hurkacz firmly on the ropes before the Pole twisted his knee and was forced to retire. Fils was leading 2-1 at the time but it was a crunch point in the fourth set where Hurkacz had a set point but Fils got the win regardless. He played incredibly well in that match but there were errors creeping into this game that he will have to eradicate, especially the 12 double faults that were proving costly.
Roman Safiullin came through a five-set thriller against Francisco Cerundolo in the first round after coming back from two sets down and then he beat Tomas Machac in four sets on Thursday. He now faces Arthur Fils for a spot in the second week at Wimbledon and he will have to do something he has never achieved in two previous meetings.
Fils has beaten Safiullin twice in straight sets on indoor hard courts in 2022 and 2023 and that will fill him with confidence once again. The 20-year-old is clearly loving his time at Wimbledon this week and it would be no surprise if he edges another one over Safiullin and gets the win. There is little to pick between these two and Safiullin is equally having a good week, but marginal preference goes to Fils.
