Anna Karolína Schmiedlova certainly hasn’t done it the easy way this week, with the Slovakian having been taken to a deciding set in all three of her matches in Budapest. However, she has stepped up her game when it has mattered most, winning those three deciding sets convincingly.
It’s been a similar tale for Aliaksandra Sasnovich, with the Belarusian playing just one set fewer than her opponent in wins over Viktoriya Tomova (the second seed), Maria Timofeeva and Suzan Lamens.
