ANDREY RUBLEV VS MATTEO ARNALDI PREDICTION
World number six Andrey Rublev beat Pedro Martinez in straight sets on Wednesday to avoid a potential banana skin, backing up a well-fought four-set opener over Taro Daniel. The 26-year-old won his second Masters title on clay at the Madrid Open earlier this month, stunning Carlos Alcaraz from a set down, and he may never have a better chance at reaching a first Grand Slam final, let alone more, than this wide open draw in Paris.
The draw is wide enough, however, for someone of 23-year-old Matteo Arnaldi’s stature to make a surprise deep run. The Italian brought a career-high ATP world ranking of 35th into Paris and he has so far played like it, upsetting 29th seed Arthur Fils in a four-set opener before blasting past Alexandre Muller – who in turn upset Andrey Rublev in Rome this month – in straight sets.
Rublev beat Arnaldi in straight sets at the Vienna Open late last year but the Italian has come on leaps and bounds since helping his nation lift the Davis Cup in November and this could end up a five-set thriller on Friday. The Russian should ultimately find a way through but backing Arnaldi to win a set looks the shrewd way to avoid a result here.
