THE PREDICTION
World number seven Andrey Rublev and number 17 Hubert Hurkacz will face off for the fifth time with a finely-poised 2-2 head-to-head promising a thriller. 25-year-old Rublev beat Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets on Saturday to reach the Shanghai final without dropping a set, with results over Tommy Paul and Ugo Humbert also catching the eye, to brush aside recent intermittent form. 26-year-old Hurkacz has enjoyed a kinder route to the final but the Pole did well to beat Chinese number one Zhizhen Zhang in the round of 16 and a straight-sets victory over Sebastian Korda on Saturday came easier than expected. Both Hurkacz and Rublev have won a Masters title each, with Hurkacz claiming the 2021 Miami Open title and Rublev breaking his duck in April this year in Monte-Carlo, but Rublev has won each of their last two encounters last season in Dubai and Indian Wells to look the slightest favourite. Three of their four matches have seen at least a tiebreak, so consider combining Rublev to earn at least a set with at least ne tiebreak in the match to avoid a result. If Hurkacz can serve at his best, though, the Pole should edge this contest.
