THE PREDICTION

World number 29 Veronika Kudermetova is through to her third tour final of the season after a straight-sets victory over defending Istanbul Open champion Sorana Cirstea. The 24-year-old finished runner-up to Simona Halep at Melbourne 1 at the start of the season ad again to Jelena Ostapenko at the Dubai Tennis Championships and she has taken that explosive form into the clay swing with impressive ease. Kudermetova won her only WTA title to date at last season’s Charleston Open on clay and she looks the solid favourite to win another here against world number 122 Anastasia Potapova. The 21-year-old set a career-high WTA world ranking of 64th back in 2019 and she looks set to break that sooner rather than later no matter the outcome here with the top 100 already breached by reaching the final.

Potapova has beaten some tough opposition this week but a three-set defeat to Kudermetova at Melbourne 1 back in January suggests this match is the elder Russian’s to lose. Back Kudermatova to win outright.
